ABOUT DON KORB & SONS

The name Don Korb has long been synonymous with pianos in the Tampa Bay Area. Just mention the word piano to one of your friends and chances are they have had their own piano tuned and serviced by Don or one of his many family members. (There are SEVEN piano techs in the family!) Mention the name Don Korb in this town and what comes to mind? Pianos of course! After all, he has been the ‘Don’ of pianos in St. Pete/Tampa for over SIX decades! Ever since relocating his family to St. Petersburg in the Summer of 1957, Don Sr. has fiddled around with pianos; picking them up, rescuing them from the dust, fixing them up, and above all – TUNING them!

What started as an avocation of working on pianos soon became a full-court press. The demand for top-notch quality service and precision piano care eventually became so great in St. Petersburg that in 1965 Don Korb Piano Service was established to serve the Tampa Bay Area full time and meet that demand.

There was no piano-related service that Don didn’t perform. Cabinetry refinishing, re-stringing, rebuilding & complete restoration all took place in the Korb Piano Shop that was located in the 2300 block between Central Avenue and First Avenue South in what is now known as the border between the Grand Central and Warehouse Districts…right in the heart of Downtown St. Pete!

Yep…he’s still got the biggest smile with the biggest mustache in town!

Ever since grade school little Donny (Don II) worked alongside his dad performing action regulation duties & changing out piano parts – little by little learning the craft and developing the skills & the expertise that would prepare him to become the next ‘Piano Don’ in the St. Pete/Tampa area. In the fall of 1974, just nine years after his dad started Don Korb Piano Service, Don II started his own business, New Life Piano Service. That same October, he established membership in the Piano Technicians Guild as RPT (Registered Piano Technician) and has continued as a member since then.

In 2005 Don II’s son Donovan started his own piano service business and has established a stellar reputation as one of the three ‘Dons’ of Piano Tuning & Repair in the Tampa Bay Area. To reach the ‘young blood’ you can call Donovan Korb Piano Service @ (727) 481-2488. Nobody provides better customer service than Donovan!

After more than 50 years in the business, Don Korb II is still crankin’ & goin’ strong – tuning and repairing the bulk of the pianos in the Tampa Bay Area. When Don Sr. retired from full-time piano service in 1999, he turned his business over to one of his five sons, Marty who has established himself as the premier concert piano technician for many of the venues in the Tampa Bay Area. Marty has tuned for ‘everybody who is anybody’ that has come to perform in the Bay Area. He really is a top tier piano tech!

Currently, Don II and Marty are the only two of the seven family members still investing full time in the family piano service business. Together, Don & Marty have formed a wonderful alliance partnering together to make up the ‘dream team’ for piano tuning & repair in the Tampa Bay area.
Call, text or email one of us – you can’t go wrong with either one!
